WAS 103, DET 106 Player of the game: Grant Hill: 46 PTS 67% FG, 7 REB, 7 AST, 2 STL, 2 BLK On February 8th, 1999 the Wizards were in town and in the just third game of shortened season Pistons 'Mr. Nice Guy’ Grant Hill was eager to prove everyone in the Palace that the long break didn't take effect his stamina and shooting touch. The 1998-99 Wizards were an experienced group of proved veterans - the starting line-up included guards Rod Strickland and Mitch Richmond, forwards Calbert Cheaney and Juwan Howard, center Terry Davis. The bench featured potentially huge contributors in Tracy Murray, Ben Wallace and Otis Thorpe coming off the bench. Grant Hill scored a career-high 46 points in a controversial game where the Wizards players allegedly claimed the rising star and then-heir to his Airness, Michael Jordan, received superstar treatment to secure the victory. Hill tied the Palace of Auburn Hills record for the most points scored in a game by any NBA player at that time. He made 14 of 21 shots from the field and achieved a career-high 18 of 22 from the free-throw line, while also grabbing 7 rebounds and dishing 7 assists. The game ended with a 3-point win over the Wizards. During the shortened season, Hill played in all 50 games, averaging 21.1 points, 7.1 rebounds, 6.0 assists, and 1.6 steals per game.
