Compensation means "something given to make up for something else". We can use the Compensation Method to make an addend a 10 to help solve an addition problem. We can take ones from an addend to make the other addend a tens number. A tens number has no ones. They have a 0 in the ones place. We can make one addend the next tens number. Then we can complete a new addition sentence. We use tens blocks to show how to make another 10. We use tens frames to show adding 2-digit numbers. We solve two word problems that involve using the compensation method to make a ten. One of the word problems involves reading a chart of information. 2nd Grade Math 4.1, Break Apart Ones to Add • 2nd Grade Math 4.1, Break Apart Ones to Add 2nd Grade Math playlist: • 2nd Grade Math Course I'm using the Houghton Mifflin Go Math! 2015 copyright textbook for this playlist.
