(7 Jul 1996) T/I 10:47:05 A lawyer acting for Yigal Amir, the Jewish extremist convicted of the assassination of Yitzhak Rabin, said on Sunday (7/7) that Amir could not have killed the Israeli prime minister. SHOWS: ISRAEL, JERUSALEM, 7/7 Yigal Amir's lawyer Jonathan Goldberg ENG SOT: The prime minister and the bodyguard were on the ground. Yigal Amir shot a straight angle. There was no way he could shoot the Prime Minister (PM). Even the order of the bullets and the number was different. There should have been five bullets left. According to the evidence a lot more than that. There is a lot of controversy over the evidence and what exactly happened. Other things show that according to three doctors, when the PM first came in they said that the person that really shot Rabin shot four or five minutes beforehand. He got to the hospital at 9:52, four or five minutes before that, that's 9:47 or 48. They were already in the car, gone. There was no way that Amir shot the PM. It's true that he shot him but they were blank bullets. And he was the camouflage for the real murderer. .. That's what I'm saying.. We are saying that the real murderer could have been.. the PM was killed on the way to the hospital because even the bodyguard.. said "drive".. only afterwards he says "drive to the hospital." He did not say "drive to the hospital" at the very beginning. Only afterwards. By the way, he said it only took a minute and a half to get to the hospital. That's a lie. It took him twenty two minutes to get to the hospital. What happened in those twenty two minutes? In a minute and a half you can get to the hospital by walking... I think that supports what I am saying: that Amir wants to take responsibility for everything. He wants to be the one that did it and that's why he wants to take claim for that. He is taking claim for something that someone else was doing. 2.13 Find out more about AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/HowWeWork Twitter: / ap_archive Facebook: / aparchives Instagram: / apnews You can license this story through AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/metadata/you...
