Trois étrangers se rencontrent dans un coin reculé du Kazakhstan : Sadyk (Bakhytzhan Alpeis), un vieillard itinérant qui ne craint plus du tout de mourir; Nadya (Irka Abdulmanova), une boutiquière grincheuse; et un extraterrestre (Chingiz Kapin) dont l’astronef s’est écrasé et qui reste planqué en attendant de trouver un moyen de rentrer chez lui. Mais ce récit ne suivra pas la trajectoire habituelle humains-contre-extraterrestre, bien au contraire. Avec l’aide d’une petite fille curieuse et attentionnée (Ailin Sultangazina), notre trio mal assorti et n’ayant décidément rien en commun apprendra à se soutenir et même à s’entraider. Hélas, le gouvernement s’en mêle, et un policier un peu maladroit est sur la piste des héros. Comment feront-ils face aux épreuves qui les attendent? Yerden Telemissov est bien connu pour ses remarquables performances dans les séries SLOW HORSES (Apple TV+) et McMAFIA (BBC), mais voici qu'il passe derrière la caméra afin de réaliser un premier long-métrage qu'il a également coscénarisé. Aventure de science-fiction, certes, mais aussi, et surtout un voyage de compréhension et d’acceptation de « l’autre » sous toutes ses formes. Renowned for his standout performances in series like Apple TV+’s SLOW HORSES (2022) and BBC’s MCMAFIA (2018), Yerden Telemissov now steps behind the camera for the first time, directing and co-writing his darkly funny yet surprisingly sweet debut feature. It explores the boundary between “us” and “them”, which feels ever more relevant in times marked by increasing division and conflict. As Telemissov himself puts it, STINKER is not only a science-fiction adventure but a heartfelt journey for answers, understanding, and acceptance of “the other”. The film stars some of Kazakhstan’s most celebrated talents, including Alpeis, awarded Honoured Worker of Kazakhstan in 2013, acclaimed stage actress Abdulmanova, and Kapin (DISSOLVE, 2019), with Zangar Akhmet-qazy and a special appearance by Dulyga Akmolda (SWEETIE, YOU WON’T BELIEVE IT, 2020), adding an extra layer of delight.
