The Aletsch Glacier is the largest glacier in the alps. Yet, the ice giant is - like most glaciers in the world today - slowly disappearing. The climate is changing and the temperature in the Alps is rising faster than the global average. Scientists predict that only 10 to 30 percent of Switzerland's present-day glacier volume will still exist by 2100. Seeing this beautiful glacier slowly melting has made me feel humble. I thought of our future generations hiking the same paths along the glacier as my fellow student Marius and I did, probably only seeing an empty valley without this great glacier tongue meandering its way down the valley...
