Blue Flag Iris Basics (Iris versicolor)

This beauty of an Iris is adaptable beyond words. It fairs well in a whole range of environments. It forms lovely shallow rhizomes, and forms trailing clumps. Similar to its yellow - blooming cousin, Iris pseudacorus, this plant blooms reliably throughout the early summer, with minimal extra care. It is prone to rabbit and deer damage. It tends to be rather blight resistant in my experience. It has striking coloured markings on each flower, each bloom is somewhat unique in this feature. This reliable perennial will continue to reward you with light green grass-like foliage, and a floral frenzy for decades to come. It is most easily devided after bloom, simply manually dividing clumps with a large spade or a garden fork. :)
