Hello everyone, welcome back to EMPIREPRO.. or if you’re new here, thank you for clicking on this video. Today I want to discuss the Infamous Hart Dungeon, a small basement in the home of the Hart Mansion in Calgary, Canada, used to physically and mentally test younger wrestlers. The school was created by Stu Hart, patriarch of the Hart wrestling family and is known for having produced some of the greatest and most successful professional wrestlers of all time. So let’s take a look into what made the Hart Dungeon such an intimidating yet important piece of pro wrestling history. Stu Hart was a Canadian amateurand professional wrestler, booker, promoter, and coach throughout his professional career. He is best known for founding and handling Stampede Wrestling, a professional wrestling promotion based in Calgary, Alberta, teaching many individuals at its associated wrestling school "The Dungeon" and establishing a professional wrestling dynasty consisting of his relatives and close trainees. As the patriarch of the Hart wrestling family, Hart is the ancestor of many wrestlers, most notably being the father of Bret and Owen Hart as well as the grandfather of Natalya Neidhart, Teddy Hartand Harry Smith. Stu Hart purchased the infamous Hart Mansion in 1951, previously billed as an army hospital, and rebuilt it in his image of his own personal gym, training facility and workshop for future wrestling stars, particularly young Canadian stars. Despite being the bead trainer, Stu was also accompanied by Kazuo Sakurada, better known as Mr. Sakurada, The Dragonmaster, and as the Japanese version of Kendo Nagasaki. Sakurada was also highly regarded by Bret Hart as one of his most significant trainers alongside Katsui Adachior Mr. Hito, with whom he taught extensively in Hart Dungeon, with Mr. Hito ultimately taking over head trainer duties at the dungeon after Stu’s passing in 2003. Hart acquired the former army hospital mansion in 1951 and transformed its basement into his personal training centre shortly thereafter. This was done because Stu needed a training facility after the founding of his first wrestling promotion in 1948. Although, the nickname itself developed over time when Stampede Wrestling became world famous. Along with its wrestling school known as "The Dungeon", many of the Stampede wrestling’s former alumni becoming some of the most popular stars in the World Wrestling Federation and other American promotions during the 1980s and 1990s, the promotion produced one of the earliest televised professional wrestling programs (today considered the forerunner of today's WWE) that remained one of Calgary's most popular sports programs eventually airing in over 50 countries. Teddy Hart, Stu Hart's oldest grandson ran a training camp in Texas named Texas Hart Dungeon from around 2012 to 2015. Smith Hart, Stu's oldest son founded a new wrestling school in 2015 named Dungeon Discipline Professional Wrestling Schoolwhich is run out of Calgary and Berrie in Alberta, after Smith's passing in 2017 the training is mostly handled by Smith's son Matthew and granddaughter, WWE’s Natalya. Along side Natalya’s husband, former WWE star and dungeon graduate, TJ Wilson (better known as Tyson Kidd).
