Jänner 2019) im Salzkammergut im Bundesland Oberösterreich in Österreich und liegt am Hallstätter See. Zusammen mit dem Dachstein und dem Inneren Salzkammergut gehört es zur UNESCO-Welterbestätte Hallstatt-Dachstein/Salzkammergut. Nach Funden in einem ausgedehnten Gräberfeld oberhalb des Ortes wird ein Zeitabschnitt der älteren Eisenzeit (800 bis 450 v. Chr.) als Hallstattzeit bezeichnet. Die Gemeinde liegt im Gerichtsbezirk Bad Ischl. Obertraun ist eine Gemeinde im oberösterreichischen Salzkammergut im Bezirk Gmunden im Traunviertel mit 735 Einwohnern (Stand 1. Jänner 2019). Die Gemeinde liegt im Gerichtsbezirk Bad Ischl. Seit 1997 gehört die Gegend um Obertraun und Hallstatt zum UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe. Der Sarstein ist ein isolierter Bergstock des Dachsteingebirges im Salzkammergut. Er gipfelt im 1975 m ü. A. hohen Hohen Sarstein und bildet die Grenze zwischen Oberösterreich und dem steirischen Ausseerland. Die Stadt Bad Ischl ist ein österreichischer Kurort mit 14.126 Einwohnern (Stand 1. Jänner 2019) an der Traun, im Zentrum des Salzkammergutes im südlichen Teil von Oberösterreich. Die Stadt gehört zum Bezirk Gmunden und liegt im Gerichtsbezirk Bad Ischl. Der Kurort wurde beim Wettbewerb für Lebensqualität der Entente Florale Europe mit der höchsten jemals vergebenen Punktezahl mit einer Goldmedaille ausgezeichnet. 2024 wird Bad Ischl gemeinsam mit 20 Gemeinden im Salzkammergut neben Bodø in Norwegen und Tartu in Estland Kulturhauptstadt Europas sein.
