This documentary was officially screened at AIDS 2012: XIX International AIDS Conference in Washington DC. Manguzi: Raising Children in Rural South Africa provides a personal account of challenges faced by caregivers of children in HIV-endemic communities of Rural South Africa. Caregivers share their experiences of living with HIV, illness and/or disability, while caring for children and coping with stigma. Despite significant hardship, theirs are stories not only of challenges encountered, but also of love, resilience and pride. This is evident from their message of hope for other caregivers and communities. This documentary film and multimedia were produced in collaboration with the Young Carers South Africa Study, at study on familial effects of HIV illness and AIDS orphan-hood. They represent a unique collaboration between caregivers of children, multimedia artists, a local NGO and researchers from the University of KwaZulu-Natal ( UKZN), Brown University and the University of Oxford. Credits A HEARDUKZN and Oak Bay Johnny production in collaboration with the Young Carers Research Team and Tholulwazi Uzivikele Project.
