Ophthalmic visco-surgical devices (OVD) left in the eye after cataract surgery will likely induce a post-operative intra-ocular pressure (IOP) spike. Residual OVD within the capsular bag may also cause capsular bag distension syndrome. After using OVD for lens implantation, it is mandatory to thoroughly remove the viscoelastic from the anterior chamber and more importantly from behind the IOL optic.
