Kathmandu Durbar Square is one of three Durbar Squares in the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal, all of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It was built in the cultural prosperity of Nepal’s history. The square held the palaces of the Malla and Shah kings who ruled over the city. Along with these palaces, the square surrounds quadrangles, revealing courtyards and temples. It is known as Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square, a name derived from a statue of Hanuman, the monkey devotee of Lord Ram, at the entrance of the palace. The square is home to many temples and shrines such as Taleju Temple, Jagannath Temple, Kal Bhairav, Kumari Ghar (House of Kumari) and Kasthamandap. The temples are built in pagoda style with intricate carvings and are considered to be some of the finest specimens of Nepalese architecture. #culture #history #nepal #kathmandu #hanumandhoka #unesco #durbar square
