How do you identify a speaker's or author's tone in literature? What are some challenges to recognizing and analyzing tone in writing? Professor Raymond Malewitz answers these questions using examples taken from everyday life, Claude McKay's "The Harlem Dancer," and Elizabeth Bishop's "Questions of Travel." The short video is designed to help high school and college English students to not only identify tone in fiction and poetry but also to analyze its effect upon literary themes.
