Curator and Art Historian Dr. August Jordan Davis takes a closer look at Jessica Drenk’s Elemental Form. Dr. August Jordan Davis is an art historian and curator. Originally from Dallas, August studied her BFA in Art History at UNT in Denton. However, in 1995 she moved to England where she undertook her graduate studies, obtaining an MA (Distinction) in Visual Arts in Contemporary Culture from Keele University, and a PhD in Art History from the University of Liverpool. For over 20 years, August served as faculty at several UK universities across various regions of England. From 2011 – 2019, she served as Director of The Winchester Gallery and MA Program Leader for the contemporary curation master’s program she created at the historic Winchester School of Art, part of the University of Southampton. In 2019, August became the Department Chair for the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Texas at Arlington, where she also serves as tenured Associate Professor of Art History. Since 2022, she also has served as Director of The Gallery at UTA. August has published writings on a range of art historical issues over the last two decades and has been invited to speak about art and curation across the USA, in Europe, India, China, and Turkey.
