On 3rd March 2018, Islamic scholars Asrar Rashid and Mufti Layth got together in an attempt to discuss the conditions of the forthcoming debate between them. The topic of the debate is whether the descent of Isa/Jesus (peace be upon him) at the end times is a myth or a reality. Some background - on 20 December 2017 Shaykh Asrar Rashid posted the following exact words on social media: Mufti (name removed) from Birmingham claims that the descent of Isa (Jesus, peace be upon him) is not going to happen and there is no Imam Mahdi. He claims this is the position of some Sunni Ulama like RashidRida, Abduh, Maghrawi, Shaltut and others. How do you respond? Answer: To hold the position that Isa (peace be upon him) will not descend in the end times is heresy and a rejection of mutawatir (mass transmitted) hadith as well as consensus. If someone claims Isa (peace be upon him) was killed he commits disbelief. Rashid Rida and Abduh were deviants who were refuted by Imam Yusuf Nabhani. Shaltut repented on his death bed from this opinion. Today this gross opinion is adopted by Dr Adnan Ibrahim and this individual. This Mufti could never defend his position in a public discussion so resorts to FB live to entertain people uneducated in Islam. It would be interesting if he accepts to debate.
