This is an amazing version of Busch Gardens' (Williamsburg 2024) original creation Monster Stomp on Ripper Row, with superb refreshed choreography, directing nothing short of perfection, and cast talent and chemistry that really kicks this show up a level. This interpretation of an old story is told through popular songs and woven together to present a unique perspective on Jack the Ripper, exploring his often-ignored softer side, and takes the audience on his metamorphic journey from pure psychotic life-ender through the turbulence of meeting his true love and the eventual consequences of mixing his psychoses with the trappings of a complex (to say the least) romantic entanglement. The talent of this show's entire crew, from set/lighting/sound designers to directors, choreographers and performers, is nothing short of breathtaking, as the individual ingredients combine to result in a theatrical experience that is fast-paced, full of twists and turns, and which takes the audience on an emotional trek that is at once exhilarating and heart-wrenching (and at times shocking), employing hard-hitting and captivating choreography performed by top-notch dancers and acting which pulls us in and tugs at the heart strings. As the tension crescendos in anticipation of the final destination of these two unexpected lovers, interspersed lighter yet hard-hitting, creative, well-executed percussive and glowing skeleton dance performances round out this not-to-be-missed dramatic theatrical performance. The percussionists are so much fun to watch, with their exceptional drumming skills and tight choreography, presenting comedic relief which, along with the playful, dancing, glowing skeletons, provides welcome relief and balance when juxtaposed against the intensity of the underlying storyline. Much credit goes to Busch Gardens for taking the time to find exceptional talent and for creating entertainment that rivals the best of the best, which has led to a loyal following of fans over the years and is no doubt exposing many who otherwise would not have the opportunity (or inclination) to be exposed to live theater. And of course a special shout out to the original creator, who must be very proud to see the evolution of their work over the course of years result in this masterpiece. Well done cast and crew! Thank you for providing 22 minutes of some of the most captivating, entertaining and thrilling musical theater; clearly your extraordinary talent and effort does not go unnoticed, as the audience's reaction attests to. This is a definite crowd-pleaser that is so chock full of visual and auditory content that every time you watch it you discover something new, which inevitably keeps you coming back for more! Bravo!
