Monica Raseroka is a native South African who grew up as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was baptized at a young age for reasons she now openly reflects on — family expectations, belonging, and tradition. As Monica grew older, she began noticing racial divisions within the congregation, shaped by South Africa’s history of apartheid and colonization. Through her lived experience and later her university education, she started to question not only organized religion, but also the broader role Christianity played in reinforcing colonial power structures. These questions led Monica on a deeply personal spiritual journey. Today, she practices African Spirituality, which she describes as a more authentic and ancestral connection to the divine — one rooted in culture, history, and lived experience.
