Sukkot Chol Hamoed (Shabbat - Sat 7th Oct. – 17th Tishrei) Dr. Who has the Tardis; we have the Sukka This series of Laibl’s Video Blog has been kindly sponsored by Dr. Sari Irlicht in honour of her mother Sylvia Irlicht o.b.m. SUMMARY Stepping into a Sukkah is to step into a higher world – a rarified atmosphere ot time travel through Jewish history. Instead of Dr. Who’s Tardis, this week step into our own spiritual space-ship – the Sukkah. Notes: •This Shabbat will be Sukkot – the world of spiritual energy surrounding your world of matter. In fact the world exists in a series of encirclements, spiritual wombs. The atmosphere surrounds earth. Our skin surrounds our flesh. Our personality traits surround our spiritual core. Circles within circles within circles. •Likewise the Torah: the ten commandments are surrounded by the 5 books of Moses. The first commandment is surrounded by the other 9. The first word the first sentence. The first letter is surrounded by the word. •This concept of Sovev (that the finite world is surrounded by a higher infinite spiritual envelope) is symbolized in a Sukka. The Sukka is the only Mitzva that totally envelopes the human being. •So when we step into a Sukkah it is like stepping into another realm, another world, one in which the impossible can happen. •Forget Dr. Who’s phone booth spaceship – the Tardis. Our Jewish space ship is a phone booth called the Sukka, and it has a direct line to G-d. Enter it and make a call.
