And fun this coupe is, wrapping a turbocharged 6-cylinder and 5-speed manual transmission in vivid Terra Cotta aesthetics. Want a unique, low-mileage classic that you can show off and enjoy? This well preserved Supra is your ticket! BODYWORK/TRIM The early '80s saw automakers working with increased aerodynamics that brought sharp angles, clean profiles and an array of smoother surfaces to the entire passenger car market. For the Celica, that meant a classic fastback shape which rode on a whittled stance. And although Toyota's frugality remained obvious, a mix of chiseled lines and aggressive bolt-ons allowed the brand's more premium offerings to develop unique identities. This super clean Mark II wears a nicely maintained coat of Terra Cotta pigment that's been detailed with subtle black pinstripes. Presently, the car's finish looks very good, especially under tinted windows, aftermarket spoilers and choice black accents. And, as you would expect from a coveted collectible, panel fitment is solid all around. ENGINE Mechanically, this coupe exemplifies top-notch maintenance via its original, DOHC engine. Toss the lightweight hood and you'll find a 145 horsepower 5M-GE 6-cylinder that, thanks to the folks at Corky Bell's shop, mixes proven MSD ignition with an adjustable CarTech intercooled turbo kit. As the first Toyota powerplant to utilize hydraulic lifters, the mill isn't a grossly overpowered piece. But it's certainly proven its merit on twisted backroads and, at the time of its American introduction, enjoyed vast aftermarket support. At the top of the block, trusted K&N induction recruits oxygen for Bosch L Jetronic fuel injection. Under that induction, silver-detailed cam covers cap factory intake and exhaust manifolds. At the base of those covers, a traditional points distributor sequences fire through Magnecore Competition cables. A hearty Optima gel cell initiates that fire. And, as you can see from our photos, the car's engine bay is about as fresh and spotless as a 33 year old classic can be, with most ancillary components showing minimal wear. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Load this Supra on a lift and you'll find a well-preserved undercarriage that's bolted to what appear to be original, rust-free floorpans. A tough W58 5-speed sends power to an 8-inch Toyota axle, which spins a limited-slip differential around 3.72 gears. Below that drivetrain, a factory-spec, Lotus-tuned suspension remains exactly as it was back in 1982, with the exception of aftermarket sway bars and high quality Tokico shocks. That chassis turns thanks to variable assisted power rack-and-pinion steering. At the corners, factory-spec power disc brakes utilize upgraded pads to increase stopping performance. There's a custom exhaust system, which gives the engine a signature growl. And everything rides on modular Epsilon wheels, which spin 225/50R16 Bridgestone Potenzas around locking lug nuts. INTERIOR Behind the doors, a weather-free interior offers a great balance between daily and high performance needs. Original bucket seats are firm and supportive, showing minimal overall wear. Between those seats, a molded console centers a modern Kenwood CD player in front of a simple red shifter. The car's stylish, color-keyed dashboard is in great shape and free of cracks and scratches. The carpet, headliner, door panels and other soft surfaces retain their showroom charm thanks to an easy, well-maintained life. In front of the driver, a red, Supra-branded steering wheel laps a VDO turbocharger gauge and clear analog telemetry. Behind the passengers, a stainless-trimmed cargo hold features enough room for a weekend's worth of luggage. And everything, from the car's factory power windows to its Toyota cruise control, is present, accounted for and ready to hit the road If you've been searching for a unique, fully sorted classic that you can preserve and enjoy, here's your car!
