Tim Martin- Columbia-Greene Media HUDSON -- Down 14-12, Willie Walker turned the tide and led Hudson to a 34-14 victory over Schuylerville, helping the Bluehawks punch their ticket to the Section II, Class B championship on Friday night. Walker willed his team to victory, picking up 246 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries. "Last year they beat us pretty bad so we had to get revenge," Walker said. "I just put the team on my back. I love my teammates. They know when I'm down and they try to pick me up. When I fumble, they tell me to do it on the next play. I just love them to death." The Bluehawks received the ball first and promptly marched down the field with Marcus Reid putting an exclamation point on the drive with a 12-yard carry into the end zone. Schuylerville answered by putting together a drive of its own with Derek Willson finding paydirt on an 18-yard carry. Brady Griffin converted the extra point attempt to give the Black Horses a 7-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. Both teams stepped up on defense in the second quarter until just before halftime when Hudson's Walker carried the ball near the goal line, fumbled and Kimedrick Murphy recovered in the end zone to give the Bluehawks a 12-7 lead. The Black Horses nearly pulled ahead with just two seconds remaining on the clock when a botched snap was recovered by Murphy at Hudson's 2 yard line, sending the game into intermission. On its first drive of the third quarter, Willson took the ball 48 yards for a score, putting the Black Horses ahead 14-12. "I could feel the air coming out of my guys behind me. I got them all together and told them they're (Schuylerville) good and they're going to score, things are going to happen. We have to be better, score more and win the football game and they responded," Hudson coach John Davi said. "It's crucial with these guys. They have to stay positive. They have to understand we're a good football team. People are going to score on us and we're going to score on them." Hudson pushed the ball deep into Schuylerville territory, but a fumble at the 11 yard line gave the Black Horses the ball. After a defensive stand, Walker picked up a 13-yard touchdown run and delivered a 2-point conversion pass to Ryan Grandinetti, giving the Bluehawks a 20-14 advantage with three minutes left in the third quarter. Mason Goldstein's seventh interception of the season put the ball back in Hudson's possession and the Bluehawk offense took advantage with a drive capped by a 1-yard TD run by Jahmir Barnett-Williams. Jack Moon converted the extra point attempt to put Hudson ahead 27-14 in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter. After an interception by Reid, Walker blazed to the end zone on a 48-yard run. Moon added the extra point, lifting Hudson over Schuylerville 34-14. "I was supposed to pass it to Mike [Alert], but I saw an opening and did what I could," Walker said. The Bluehawks (9-0) advance to the Section II, Class B championship next Friday at Shenendehowa High School. "Once again, we came out a little slow, but my offensive line, Willie, Marcus and Mike took the game over," Davi said. "We've been preaching to these kids, we have to play as a group, we have to become one. These kids are all close friends and you can see it. It all comes together on the field."
