“Collateral Damage” is a slow, emotional progressive folk-rock track about how delays, denials, and broken systems don’t hurt paperwork — they hurt people. Built on soft acoustic guitar, spacious flute melodies, restrained percussion, and a gentle driving rhythm, this song focuses on the human cost of bureaucracy. Veterans, EMS, firefighters, and police are too often left waiting while decisions are made far away from the lives they affect. Two versions of this song appear on the album — the original and an alternate take — offering different emotional perspectives on the same truth: real people absorb the impact. This track is part of They Pay the Price by The Bedo Jones Band, created in support of Racing Dreamz — a nonprofit using motorsports therapy to help heroes reconnect with life beyond stress and systems. Collateral damage isn’t abstract. It has faces. 👍 Like and subscribe for more original music. They don’t see the parking lots At five in the morning They don’t hear the quiet breathing On the other end of waiting They see numbers on a screen They see boxes filled They don’t see the hands that shake Or the strength it takes to stand still Every form has a footer Every rule has a gate Every decision travels Longer than they calculate They call it timelines They call it process But someone’s sitting in a truck Trying not to notice Collateral damage Isn’t charts or delay Collateral damage Has a name and a face It’s veterans staring at gravel EMS on empty tanks Firefighters holding memories Police just needing a break It’s not a project that suffers It’s not a line item lost It’s people standing quietly Absorbing the cost Collateral damage Isn’t paperwork pain Collateral damage Is people in the rain We don’t need perfection We don’t need applause Just remember the distance Between decisions and lives No one signs up to be collateral No one volunteers to wait They just show up every day And carry what they’re given © 2026 TheBedoJonesBand/UforiaRadio.
