OP DE KOFFIE #17 - Jolan Decaestecker

I got to know Jolan Decaestecker in the studio we share and I was immediately touched by his sensitive way of being in this world. Then, knowing him a little better, I discovered how hard working he is. This combination, if intelligently navigated with sufficient humility, is often a recipe for very good art, and so it is with this young fellow. As a musician and as a producer, he does just great things and the hard work is starting to pay off beautifully. Check his band Ão and his solo project Empty Apartments to see for yourself. I had the chance to work with him when he recorded/mixed/produced our percussion trio Spëcht's new album that will be released in spring 2024 and that was inspiring enough to try this duo session with him. We bring for you one song of his, titled Vuur, and one improvisation where he electronically treats my the sounds of my percussion. It's been an inspiring journey through a whole range of emotions, from trancy dance vibes to the chilling fear of Nasguls flying over... Beauty is overrated, I tell you. Enjoy. As always, I gently remind you that phone and laptop speakers don't come near rendering the yummy stuff going on in the lower end of the sound spectrum. Just grab your headphones or hook up that decent stereo system and fully enjoy what is being shaken at the bottom end. "Op de koffie" means so much as "visiting for a cup of coffee" in my mother tongue, Dutch. In 2023, I will be inviting 27 people to meet in Studio Galinella, this wonderful place I share with some friends. We have fun together and play some music, connecting through the most beautiful language we have.
