This time, I walked around the shopping street in the Nakayubetsu district of Yubetsu Town. Yubetsu Town is a town with a population of about 8,000 people, located about 4 hours from Sapporo by expressway, facing the Sea of Okhotsk and Lake Saroma. In the past, it was divided into Yubetsu Town on the Sea of Okhotsk side and Kamiyubetsu Town on the Engaru side, but in 2009 they merged and became the current Yubetsu Town. The Nakayubetsu area that I shot this time used to be Kamiyubetsu Town. The shopping street is located along National Route 242. The shooting started in front of the roadside station "Kamiyubetsu Onsen Tulip-no-Yu" on the site of the former Nakayubetsu Station. Walk along what was once the street in front of the station and exit onto the national highway. If you drive straight on this national highway for about 10 minutes, you will reach the Sea of Okhotsk. Unfortunately, there are only a few shops open, but it must have been very lively in the days of railroads. In front of each store, there is a signboard written in hiragana that makes it easy to understand what kind of store it is. Kamiyubetsu has been focusing on tulip cultivation since 1957, and once boasted the largest export volume in all of Hokkaido. Since then, Yubetsu has been known as a tulip town, and you can buy bulbs of various varieties at roadside stations. This time, it was just before dusk, so the atmosphere was a little lonely, but I'm sure it will be a gorgeous atmosphere around May when the tulips are in full bloom.
