How FAT LOSS works - PART 1 - Lipolysis Have you ever wondered how fat loss actually works? Fat loss happens in two subsequent phases, which are Lipolysis and Oxidation. In this video, I explain Lipolysis. Body fat, also known as adipose tissue, is made up of fat cells, known as adipocytes. The main function of fat cells (adipocytes) is to store energy in the form of fat. The fat that is stored in fat cells (adipocytes) is called triglycerides. A triglyceride consists of a glycerol and 3 fatty acids that are attached to each other through 3 ester bonds. Lipolysis is the metabolic process through which a triglyceride is broken down into a glycerol and 3 fatty acids via hydrolysis. Lipolysis happens in the cytoplasm of fat cells. Hydrolysis is a chemical reaction in which water molecules break down a triglyceride. After lipolysis, the glycerol and 3 fatty acids enter into the bloodstream to continue their journey separately. The fatty acids enter into cells to be converted to energy in the form of ATP, which is called oxidation, or the liver to be converted to energy in the form of ketone bodies, which is called ketogenesis, or enter back into fat cells to be re-stored as body fat, which is called lipogenesis. In PART 2, I explain Phase 2 - Oxidation. VIDEO: How FAT LOSS works - PART 2 - Oxidation (COMING SOON) #lipolysis #weightloss #fitness
