Non-vascular plants are simple plants that move water and sugars cell-to-cell. Vascular plants are more sophisticated, with a dedicated transport system called the vascular system. One of the major groups of vascular plants is the gymnosperms. They are distinguished from the other major group (angiosperms, the flowering plants) by their "naked seeds" - these are not surrounded by a fruit.
