India all-rounder R Ashwin strongly questioned the growing influence of fan armies on social media, calling it a troubling trend in modern Indian cricket. Ashwin said many opinions that surface online are often views he has already heard privately in cricketing circles, raising concerns over how such narratives are amplified. Ashwin took aim at the superhero culture in Indian cricket, arguing that the game’s essence is being overshadowed by personality-driven narratives and brand-building. Ashwin, who retired from international cricket in December 2024 after the Boxing Day Test against Australia, made it clear that he has no issue with self-promotion, but firmly opposed any attempt to speak ill of fellow cricketers. Ashwin said Indian cricket has increasingly become driven by player-centric narratives rather than discussions about the game itself. Referring to the reaction to his analysis on Shubman Gill’s dismissal against New Zealand in Indore back in January, Ashwin said his focus was always on the ‘what’ and ‘why,’ not the individual. However, the conversation quickly shifted into comparisons and personal agendas. He argued that Indian cricket has drifted away from its essence, making the ‘who’ more important than the cricket. #RavichandranAshwin #Ashwin #CricketNews #IndianCricket #SocialMedia #FanWars #CricketFans #TeamIndia #AshwinStatement #ViralNews #CricketUpdates #SportsNews #FanArmy #OnlineToxicity #CricketDebate #TrendingNow #IndianCricketers #DigitalAge We talk sport 24x7, 365 days a year.
