Red Neck Fiddle In Loving Memory of Clarence Albert Hawley (1928 - 2006) Background: Clarence Albert Hawley was born on a farm near Madison, Wisconsin. His music was influenced by listening to WALS Radio's 'Barn Dance' and his cousins June and Lyle Hawley who sang cowboy songs on the radio in the early days of his childhood (circa mid-late 1930's). Clarence was an accomplished musician and composer/songwriter of country music. He had received awards from numerous national publications, including BILLBOARD. Several of his songs had been recorded in Nashville and had made the Country charts. He won songwriter of the year award from INDIE BULLET PUBLICATIONS in 1987 for his song "With a Steel and a Fiddle" which M.C.R records included on their latest CD released in June 1997. The vocal tracks were recorded by Jeff Steele (lead vocals) with the Boy Howdy Band. Clarence has many fond memories of his days in Wisconsin on his Uncle Lyle's farm in Hancock, Wisconsin. Clarence remembers the Hawley's and Albert's as being a very close family. Memories of Hancock, Wisconsin: "I knew that Doris and I were within a few days of being the same age, but we never celebrated at the same location. Our family spent most of our early years in Madison while Doris and her family spent most of their time in their lovely home in Hancock. I wish you could have been in Wisconsin back in those days. The house that the Albert's lived in was one of the most pleasant homes you could ever want. It had a very large attic where the children would play. When we played up there it was like being in another world. The farm had a big barn and the house sat on a huge park-like setting. I can remember a swing in the yard that had a toy wooden airplane tied to a rope and hung from a big old tree that we spent a lot of hours playing pilot on. There used to be an old crow that sat on a fence post and rumor had it that he could say a few words."
