One of my few gripes with the FTX-1 so far is the battery solution. Yaesu put HUGE battery on this thing, which I suppose is a good thing. But then they didn't bother putting in the new cents of power electronics that would have been needed to allow the radio to deliver the full 10 W that it's capable of while running on the included battery. That, combined with the fact that the 400 g / 1 lbs battery adds quite a bit of weight to what is already arguably an overweight radio, makes very little sense to me. Luckily I've faced a similar problem (though to a lesser extent) with my IC-705, and know the best way around it. A simple USB trigger cable and a small USB power bank (weighing only half of the Yeasu battery) will easily power the radio and allow it to deliver it's full 10 W output power. Since recording the video I've tested this solution on several activations, and it working really well. So join me for a quick 10 minutes build video putting together this USB trigger cable. The trigger board I used to create this cable (12 V version): https://www.aliexpress.com/item/10050...
