Original video idea by Gamechamp3000 at • VG Myths - Can You Beat Sonic 3 & Knuckles... This is a tool-assisted speedrun of me beating Sonic 3 & Knuckles as Knuckles without pressing Right once (Right Button Challenge). I took the following liberties which make the run somewhat different compared to Gamechamp3000. I did not minimize Left button presses, so Left is freely used in the run. I used screen wraps in Marble Garden 1 and Sandopolis 2, as well as a 7 insta-hit strat in Mushroom Hill 1. None of these are required to beat the game without pressing Right, but since it's a speedrun, might as well go fast. I used savestates and occasionally slowed down the game for the sake of a good demonstration. None of these are required to beat the game. There are no half-Right presses. You can download the Bizhawk input file here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/16Gu5... This can be played with a standard Sonic 3 & Knuckles ROM. Some basic ways of making Knuckles face right without pushing Right, which I used extensively in the speedrun, include Clinging to a wall while facing left and then jumping off Gliding towards a left screen lock and then releasing the glide without pushing Left Running backwards Left and then braking by pushing Left Some objects and ramps force Knuckles to change direction to Right (Hydrocity 2 slopes, Steve the Flying Battery 2 spider, etc.) Climbing up a wall facing left onto solid terrain and then entering the balancing animation. I do not know of a way of beating the game as Sonic and/or Tails without pushing Right. The timing method shown in the video is the one followed by Sonic 3 & Knuckles speedruns: Real Time Attack Minus Time Bonuses, or RTA-TB for short. RTA-TB pauses the timer while any time bonus counts down in score tallies at the end of acts. This prevents situations where you'd deliberately slow yourself at the end of an act in order to get a shorter time bonus. I made a small mistake in Lava Reef 1 where I split and thus stopped the timer earlier, but the timer still stopped the adequate amount. I do not claim this is the perfect Right Button Challenge speedrun, so if you have any suggestions as to how to improve, let me know in the comments.
