Odyssey of the Seas: Ft. Lauderdale Arrival on April 17th, 2022

On April 9th the Odyssey of the Seas set sail on an 8 night Southern Caribbean sailing. Originally scheduled to make a lap around the caribbean with a stop in Grand Cayman, covid restrictions led to several itinerary changes. Sailing round trip from Ft. Lauderdale she made stops in Willemstad Curaçao and Oranjestad Aruba as originally scheduled, as well as the addition of CocoCay in the Bahamas. 8 nights later on April 17th she made her way back to Ft. Lauderdale to bring the sailing to an end. Prior to reaching the port she had to sail the coast of Florida which can often be busy on a weekend as ships are headed into the ports of Miami, Port Everglades, and Port Canaveral. At 1:15 AM on Saturday April 16th the Mardi Gras reported an overboard incident while 55 miles from Port Canaveral. Several ships participated in the search but the individual was never located. As a result of the search efforts many ships were late to arrive into port on Saturday resulting in delayed departures and them still being in the area as we made our way back to Florida. This included the Mardi Gras herself who would normally have been long gone, but we got to sail past at a close distance at 4:30 AM. The Odyssey of the Seas reached Ft. Lauderdale on time becoming the first ship to travel down the channel for the day and reaching Terminal 18 at 6AM. Following her arrival the ms Rotterdam was then next followed by the Celebrity Edge both traveling down the channel that runs parallel to the beach. The Nieuw Statendam then arrived docking across from the Odyssey of the Seas. Unexpectedly after all of the scheduled ships arrived the ms Noordam then arrived and docked behind the Odyssey of the Seas. The Coral Princess and Celebrity Infinity also then arrived, but with a fully loaded port they stayed off the coast by the entrance to the port. This brought the total number of cruise ships in Ft. Lauderdale to 7, an unusually high number for even Port Everglades.
