I love painting in journals of all kinds because it’s a quick way to be creative and see an immediate outcome—especially if you’re pressed for time or working through an idea that may eventually become something more elaborate. In this clip, I use a simple palette of six colors: black, pink, red, yellow ochre, chrome oxide green, and white, along with some stencils I’ve accumulated over the years—some found online and others from local craft stores. After a thorough cleaning and re-organizing of my studio, it felt like the right time to give some neglected tools a little love after being hidden away for so long. I also used a mix of older paints from my stash that I’m working to finish up. I’ll share more about this color selection in another video, as I’ve recently become hooked on a fun way to fill up a journal book—Sarah Renae Clark’s Color Cubes.
