Subsequent adventures took place in the 1930s and 1950s, allowing Gatiss's parody to address different eras of the spy/adventure genre. That second and third of these books were broadcast as abridged readings (performed by the author) on BBC radio. The Devil in Amber tells a pre-war story of wickedness and occult practices in the manner of Dennis Wheatley...
