Join master cut paper artist and teacher Deborah Ugoretz for this fun from-home demo. Follow Deborah's instructions to learn how to make your own cut paper roizalakh (rosettes in Yiddish) and a few other surprises. Ugoretz began "cutting" in 1978. She makes ketubot (Jewish marriage contracts), paintings, drawings and three-dimension objects. She has designed stained glass windows and synagogue art for the Russ Berrie Home for Jewish Life in Rockleigh, New Jersey and other houses of worship. Commissions include the Tenement Museum, University of Michigan, Jewish Theological Seminary, YIVO Institute of Jewish Research, the Workers Circle, the Cathedral of St. John the Divine and many other organizations and individuals. Her work has been exhibited at the Milwaukee Jewish Museum; Monmouth Art Museum, New Jersey; Hebrew Union College Institute of Religion Museum, New York; Philadelphia Museum of Jewish Art; The Museum of Biblical Art, New York; UJA Federation Gallery, and others. From 2017-2019 she served as a folklife master teacher and mentored through a grant from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. Her exhibition Releasing Words: The Cut Paper Art of Deborah Ugoretz was on display at the Museum at Eldridge Street from fall 2018 to spring 2019.
