Today I went back to the very first stretch of canal I ever fished when I started fishing here, and the conditions were completely different than expected. The water level was at an all-time low, creating perfect ambush spots for Hampala Barbs. With the low water and calm surface, I started the session using a topwater lure, hoping to trigger aggressive Hampala strikes. Although the conditions looked ideal, the fish activity was slow and nothing committed to the surface. After adjusting my approach, I switched to my trusted all-around spoon, and that’s when the Hampala bite finally turned on! This session shows how important it is to adapt lure selection when targeting fish in canal systems, especially during low-water conditions. Spoons proved once again why they’re one of the most effective lures for Hampala fishing, allowing consistent hookups when topwater action slows down.
