In this video I show how we can automatically refill the water lost in an aquarium or pool, without energy costs, using gravity. If there are no leaks in the plumbing of an aquarium or pond, water can still be lost by the following: 1) Evaporation at the surface of the water due to differences in temperature; 2) Consumption by plants and animals; 3) Plant transpiration. A heavily populated tank with emmerged plants can suffer a good amount of loss due to transpiration; and 4) Splashing. Very active fish and other animals can expel water by causing waves or by diving. These issues are most important in spring and summer when plants and animals are more active, and the temperatures are higher. A 65 gal tank can lose around 2-3 gal of water per day. 00:06 Intro 01:54 Requirement for an indoor aquarium 02:44 Parts of the system 04:39 Measuring the volume of water supplied 06:25 How the overflow works 07:32 A water level indicator 12:22 Conclusion 13:04 Disclaimer and End screen Health and Safety at Work: Always use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when working with power tools and hazardous materials: Gloves: rubber, leather, cut resistant or heat resistant, depending on the potential hazard.
