One of the more constructive (but difficult to pull off) ways to 'handle' a line manager who's blocking your #ContinuousImprovement initiatives, is to make sure that said manager will experience problems due to not having a functioning CI program in their department. In other words, make not being Lean/Excellent their problem. When 'the pain' of this problem becomes bigger than the expected pain from having to change habits and ways of working, they will ask for help. Suddenly, you're playing a totally different game: you're the helping hand to implement the changes they need, in stead of 'that nuisance' who wants change normal practices and burden the organization with extra work. Use this with caution, but know that it's an important part of a CI manager's toolkit.
