The ward of the "halberdiers with tresses" (Zülüflü Baltacılar Ocağı) was constructed in the 15th century in order to give way to the Ottoman army. They were also responsible for the security of the SULTAN and the HAREM. The Harem is situated in the Topkapi Palace Museum in Istanbul. In the 15th century, it served as the main residence and administrative headquarters of the OttomanSultans. Sultans like Kanuni Sultan Suleiman and Mehmet the Conqueror lof the Magnificent Century lived here. The Topkapı Palace was transformed into a museum 1924.
