Let’s take a driving tour through the neighborhoods of Malaga Cove and Montemalaga located in Palos Verdes Estates on the Palos Verdes Peninsula in Los Angeles County. Malaga Cove and Montemalaga are known for many of the homes having breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and the Queen’s Necklace. The homes are often times conveniently located near the South Bay beach cities, specifically Redondo Beach and Torrance Beach. There are many benefits to living and buying a home in the Malaga Cove or Montemalaga neighborhoods including that the homes are typically less per square foot than compared to the South Bay beach cities. While you do lose some walkability depending on your location in these neighborhoods, many people find that the small European town feel, the larger homes and lots, and the privacy are benefits to living here. Conveniently located about 45 minutes to Downtown Los Angeles, Santa Monica and even Orange County, Palos Verdes has a great suburban feel, while being close enough to commute to many parts of Southern California. Centrally located at the beginning of Malaga Cove is the Malaga Cove Plaza shopping center. This is the only commercial center in the Malaga Cove and Montemalaga neighborhoods. The shopping center has small, local restaurants, a small market, some shops and businesses/offices. Surrounding the shopping center is the only high-density zoning in the area. There are condos and townhomes in the immediate area for sale and rent. The rest of Malaga Cove and Montemalaga are all custom built single family homes. Malaga Cove is the lower part of the Malaga Cove and Montemalaga area. Depending on the homes location, you are typically located about a five minute drive from Torrance and Redondo Beach, making the beach and Riviera Village very accessible. Many people enjoy walking or riding their bikes into the Redondo Beach area. The homes in Malaga Cove are known for their red tile roofs and Spanish style. Many of the homes in Malaga Cove are multi-level since many of the lots are built into the hillside. If you are looking for a single level home, it may be difficult to find in Malaga Cove. Stunning views of the Queens Necklace, Malibu and the Santa Monica mountains is one of the many reasons why people choose to live in Malaga Cove. An important fact to know about Malaga Cove is that there are wild peacocks throughout the neighborhood. While they are beautiful animals, some people do not prefer to live in this area due to the noise and messiness of the peacocks. Peacocks are known for eating vegetation in peoples yards and leaving droppings throughout. Montemalaga is located further up the hill and away from the beach cities, compared to Malaga Cove. Many of the homes in Montemalaga also have stunning views of the Queen’s Necklace and Pacific Ocean, but not as many compared to Malaga Cove. However, many of the lots in Montemalaga are large and flat, proving more usable outdoor and yard space than compared to some of the homes in Malaga Cove. Many of the homes are also single level, or only two stories, making someone looking for less stairs a good neighborhood option. While it is a further distance to the beach cities, depending on your location, you are located closer to the “top” of the Palos Verdes Peninsula, and can access the shopping centers located in Rancho Palos Verdes and Rolling Hills Estates more easily. The elementary school for both Malaga Cove and Montemalaga, is located in Montemalaga, making walkability possible for some homeowners in this part of the neighborhood. The Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District is ranked as one of the top public school districts in California. ====== 0:00 : Malaga Cove Plaza 1:01 : Malaga Cove high-density zoning (condos and townhomes) 2:16 : Upper Malaga Cove single family homes 4:16 : Lower Malaga Cove 8:46 : Montemalaga ====== ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️ Thinking of moving to the South Bay or Palos Verdes?
