TheSweetSuites hotel room walkthrough and review of the Waldorf Astoria Riviera Maya’s King Room with Swim Out pool (and ocean view) in Cancun / Riviera Maya Mexico on 09/25/2025. Overall this was a solid stay, but disappointing relative to other hotels in the Riviera Maya. The hotel is very close to the Cancun Airport (CUN) at about a ~20min drive. The service was very good (concierge team in particular are responsive, helpful, and welcoming) and the food was actually great (including the Jao Mexican restaurant and the breakfast). It has a good gym, large pool area, and what seemed to be a great spa. I also appreciated the tub on the balcony. That said, the room was small, the outdoors smelled significantly of seaweed, the beach wasn’t pleasant (again due to seaweed), the plunge pool was a little too cold for me to enjoy, and it just didn’t feel particularly lux. I got to look at a couple suites in the hotel and I’d have been disappointed to stay in them (this swim out is better as you at least get the pool). Perhaps the corner master suite with pool table and wrap around pool would be better / worth it (but currently very overpriced). I’d rather stay in Kanai (at the St Regis), Maroma (at the Belmond), Mayakoba (Banyan / Rosewood), Viceroy, or at the Esencia.
