After the months-long dry spell that New Jersey had experienced, it was finally time for the Woodstown Central Railroad to properly debut ex-US Army 0-6-0 #9 on passenger excursions. Locomotive #9 was built for the US Army in 1942, and first served at Fort Dix in New Jersey, making her a true Jersey girl, before eventually ending up at the Virginia Blue Ridge Railway, and later the New Hope & Ivyland. Purchased in 2009 by SMS Rail Lines, the original intention to operate #9 was as a switched for the Pureland complex in Bridgeport, NJ before the lease of the Salem Branch materialized, making the choice clear for where the 0-6-0 would operate. For the month of December, the engine spent her debut hauling the Santa Claus Special excursions between South Woodstown and Swedesboro to the north, 14 miles round trip.
