Using the subway directions that Duke Ellington gave him, Billy Strayhorn wrote, "Take the A Train” in 1939. Eighty four years later on May 21st Swervy World played that very tune outside a shut down shop in Canterbury town in England. Swervy World is dedicated to rediscovering interesting tunes from a past era and presenting these performances on the street in order to reach out to as broad as spectrum of the community as possible, particularly those marginalised in society or unable, for whatever reason, to not be in a position to purchase a ticket for an indoor concert. This work mainly goes unnoticed unreported and undervalued. The group, all full time travelling musicians rely on tips in the tipping hat and a small amount of bookings in the ‘street-arts’ industry to make their raggle taggle way from one town to the next, annually traversing the entire south of Britain. If you wish to discover more about the work of Swervy World, or wish to consider making an online donation, details can be obtained via the troupe’s website www.swervyworld.com
