This video demonstrates how the granular synthesis software 'Cycles' can transform your pre-recorded samples. // I was very hesitant purchasing Cycles due to its price point and my lack of experience in granular synthesis, but in time I've found it to be worth every penny. (In the video I mention the software being $300, it is actually $243). Apart from it being somewhat pricey, S+A have opted to not give it a manual. At first I found this very frustrating, but after spending months with the software, I've found Cycles can do so much that limiting it to a certain set of functions in a manual wouldn't do the plugin justice (S+A is also super active in answering questions on YouTube, Instagram, and via email in my experience). The visual layout is so simplistic that every function is a click away (and it's beautiful, which is a huge creative boost). Part of the fun is the trial and error you go through while testing samples and instruments; not knowing exactly what it will sound like after its re-synthesis is a major appeal of the plugin. To me, the mystique in S+A's branding and demonstration is part of the artistry, which I find provokes creativity.
