SOUNDBITE (Japanese): Shizue Takahashi, widow: "This is deplorable that such a thing happened to me. My life was not supposed to be like this without him. If he were alive today, I would go see movies with my husband, and go on trips. I was supposed to live happily now with my husband. It is suffering to live a life without my husband. This is completely different from what I was expecting earlier in my life." Aum video Unknown date and location 9. Followers trainings 10. SOUNDBITE (Japanese): Kazuo Kawakami, lawyer, Aum trial-watcher "There are some members of Aum who still believe in the guru, Asahara, although they were sentenced to death. So, in this sense, we cannot deny the possibility that there would be some members in the new group "Aleph" who follow Asahara. In fact, there are people who come to the group's assemblies knowing that "Aleph" is the group whose name was changed from "Aum". They come to the assemblies, give donations and listen to preaching. This still continue. So, taking this into consideration, we cannot deny the possibility that they might come to the core of the belief of Aum and may repeat the same thing." APTN FILE Tokyo - 20 March 1995 13. Ambulances on streets 14. Man on stretcher being carried APTN Tokyo - March 9 2005 15. SOUNDBITE (Japanese): Shizue Takahashi, widow: "I am determined to speak out for the sake of my husband, for other victims of the sarin gas attack, or even victims of other incidents. We should not be forgotten. I am determined to keep speaking out so that people in future who come across any tragedy do not have to suffer in the same as we did. I think my husband stands on by my side if he sees me from where he is now." APTN FILE Tokyo - 2004 16. Various exterior shots of building housing headquarters of Aleph STORYLINE: As Japan prepares to mark the 10th anniversary of the sarin subway gassing on Sunday with memorial services, for the survivors and victims' families the ordeal is far from over. The attack, carried out by members of the Aum Shinrikyo doomsday cult, killed 12 people and resulted in thousands needing hospital treatment. Many survivors have learned to cope with their ailments or the trauma. They are also stepping up pressure on the government for compensation, after legislation to support crime victims was approved last December. Shizue Takahashi, the wife of a subway worker killed in the attack, thinks the Japanese government bears responsibility, too, likening Aum's attack on Japan to the al-Qaida suicide strikes in the US. But the government has resisted payouts like those set up for families of Americans killed in the September 11 attacks and the compensation funds spent by the Spanish government after the deadly bombings of commuter trains last year. The five Aum members hurriedly fled the subway stations as the trains became poison traps.
