China’s HQ-9B air defence system has reportedly failed for the second time in a year, first during Operation Sindoor against India in Pakistan, and now during US-Israel strikes on Iran. Despite being deployed to protect key sites like Tehran, Natanz, and Fordow, the system allegedly failed to intercept incoming missiles and drones. Iran had acquired the HQ-9B from China in July 2025 under an oil-for-arms deal. The latest developments have raised serious questions over China’s defence technology, global arms credibility, and the real-world combat performance of the HQ-9B system.
