Hi this is Chris with Plantaddicts.com. Today I'm going to show you how to water hydrangeas. I also wanted to show you an exaggerated example of a hydrangea that desperately needs water. You can see that the leaves are drooping big time, and in this example the bottom part of the plant is actually starting to die out as well. So when you come back to a plant that looks like this from being out of town or if you just forget to water it, I would probably recommend just setting a soaker hose at the bottom and letting it soak for 20 to 30 minutes, that way the entire root system will get water all the way around the roots. Typically what you would do is not water during the middle of the day either. I recommend either watering in the morning or at night or late afternoon. What I do usually is just turn the hose on to the bottom like this if I'm going to water by hand. What that does is keeps moisture off of the leaves and helps prevent mold and other diseases from growing on the leaves and spreading. If it rains and the leaves get wet, that is fine. But when I'm watering by hand I try and keep the leaves as dry as possible to give the plants the best chance of not developing any diseases. As you can see, I'm soaking it all the way around the plant and I do this until the ground is completely saturated. If you do leave it as a soaker hose, you can turn it down and put at the bottom like that and come back in a little while once its had a chance to really soak the ground all the way around the plant. Thanks for coming to plantaddicts.com. I hope you enjoyed our video.
