Based on Euripides' The Bacchae, this story recounts how Dionysus, the god of wine and ecstasy, returned to Thebes to establish his divinity, facing denial from King Pentheus and his family. Pentheus defied the god and sought to suppress his cult, only to be led to ruin. Disguised, he was killed by his mother Agave in a frenzy. Dionysus punished Thebes, exiling and cursing its royal family, serving as a divine lesson against arrogance and impiety.
