Is Hiatal Hernia More Serious Than You Think?

How serious is it to have a Hiatal Hernia? ➡️ Click HERE to Book a Consultation: https://rootcausemedicalclinics.com/h... Call us directly: 727-335-0400 Let's start with what conventional medicine has to say. And let me say at the outset that I have some disagreements. Conventional medicine dictates that a small, asymptomatic hiatal hernia is not necessary to treat. Some lifestyle adjustments are likely all that is necessary. If the patient does have symptoms then a PPI medication is recommended. If medication doesn't work, surgery is recommended. When it comes to large hiatal hernias, I do agree with conventional opinion, and that is that a large hiatal hernia runs the risk of strangulation (loss of blood supply to the stomach), an obstruction and can cause trouble eating, vomiting, chest pain and shortness of breath - the upshot? Surgery is required as the risks can be life threatening. Now let's look at our Root Cause Medicine approach. I have a big problem with putting a patient on a PPI and leaving them on it for months, years and even decades. The side effects of PPIs are severe including: dementia, osteoporosis, serious kidney disease, infections and increased risk of heart attack and stroke. And patients are not warned of these dangers. And what are the benefits of PPIs? Yes, the lessen the damage that the refluxing acid is causing the esophagus. That is true. But the real culprit of reflux is the inappropriate pressure being placed on the stomach that creates the reflux, it's NOT that the stomach is making too much acid. Remember, it's the stomach's job to make acid. So conventional medicine is targeting the wrong area with their PPI treatments. It's not about lessening acid production; what is should be about is identifying WHY there is increased intra-abdominal pressure forcing your stomach to push its acid contents up into your esophagus. Therefore, getting back to the small hiatal hernia, it is serious. Your body's anatomy has been altered (the opening for the esophagus has been stretched by the stomach pushing up) and that is not normal. Even small hiatal hernias can be accompanied by a host of symptoms that can majorly impact your quality of life. These include: shortness of breath, heart palpitations, anxiety or panic attacks, gas and bloating, constipation, fatigue, insomnia and more. The imbalance caused to your gut affects everything from your immune system to hormonal balance to energy to weight. Plus, the irritation created to your vagus nerve can increase your risk of heart attack. This isn't said to scare you but rather to have you take proactive steps to remedy the situation sooner rather than waiting for it to worsen. The good news is that a small hiatal hernia can be remedied and symptoms alleviated and optimal function restored. So YES, a hiatal hernia IS serious. But the good news is that it isn't difficult to get to the root cause of why you developed it and reverse those causes. I hope this was helpful. If you have a hiatal hernia or suspect that you do, we're here to help. We specialize in its treatment and our care does not involve drugs or surgery. The best step to take is to call us for a consultation and then we can determine if what we do is a good fit for you. Call 727-335-0400. #hiatalhernia #acidreflux #rootcausemedicine
