Delft to Pijnacker South Holland Bike Trip From the ancient city of Delft, where the Dutch royal family and the countries history started. From the so-called Old leaning church (1246) and the New Church (1396) in the market square, through the nature areas of Delftse Hout with the spoonbill and great blue heron bird colonies, through the flood plains into Pijnacker, through the local market and to the St. John the Baptist church in the centre. It is a 6 KM, 25 minute bike ride. That is if the draw-bridge is not stuck in Delft! Which was nice, for we could then drive though the East gate with the bicycle, which was cool. Delft is my favourite city in The Netherlands. It is packed with history, from the great Dutch painters, like Johannes Vermeer, to the “father of the nation” of The low lands, Willem van oranje. (Willam of Orange) https://www.delft.com/william-of-nass... Delft is full of history and lovely Dutch landscapes, both in the city and out in the nature areas. After all, Pijnacker was just a tiny village when Delft was the centre of The Netherlands back in the 1500’s! But Pijnacker has a lot of nature surrounding it and is a nice place to grab a coffee before cruising back to Delft or heading off to The Hague or Rotterdam.
