An Austin 7 almost as quick as a Caterham at Gurston Hillclimb April 2022.

April 2022 at Gurston Down speed hillclimb near Salisbury. A Lancia Fulvia, I used to navigate in one, takes a wide line all four wheels off the track. A few six cyclinder Triumphs, TR6s, remind me of many happy miles in a friend's 2500S Estate car. A 1500 Spitfire impressed, they have a reputation as fragile but this one makes good power and has behaved. There was a class of MG Midgets and Austin Healey Sprites. As with the Austin 7s power can be double in one than an outwardly similar other, and the gearboxes vary as you'll hear. My primary interest was the Austin 7 Bert Hadley championship cars, I used to compete and am trying to get my car back together, and my late friend's son's car finished, and push on with my godson's car - lots of Austin 7 stuff on the channel. In particular Colin Dank's car, a two seater than can run on the road that's almost as quick as a Caterham. Single carb, no supercharger, but attention to every detail and a lot of testing and development work. He's also quick and committed driver. Star car and driver that day. Filmed April 2022.
