In this video I demonstrate how to mix and handle a variety of reds in oil paint using my 'Two-Colour Mixing' method. This will help you mix the colours that you want, reliably and cleanly. I show you 6 ways to mix reds: 0:00 Intro to mixing reds 3:45 Mix 1: rose madder and light green 6:10 Mix 2: magenta and light green 7:03 Mix 3: cobalt violet and light green 7:30 Mix 4: ultramarine violet and light green 8:55 Mix 5: rose madder and cadmium orange 9:12 Mix 6: magenta and cadmium orange The mixes will have all the advantages of Two-Colour Mixing: allow seamless colour shifts and vibrant, translucent colours even when diluted for washes and glazes. The principles of Two-Colour Mixing are: arrange your paints according to the 'Color Line' (see my 'Practical Color Theory' video for more detail) identify where the color you want to mix sits on the Color Line don't use the color itself, but pick one color from either side on the line darken the color by moving further away on one side or the other - don't use black only use white to lighten a mix add small amounts of paint at a time keep your knife/brush clean This video is one of a series looking at mixing all the different colours in my Colour Line. Each video uses the same principles which I explain in my 'Practical Colour Theory...' video - it may help you if you watch this first... I will be bringing out more videos on colour mixing in the next few weeks, along with those looking at great artists and how they paint, so don't forget to subscribe!
