At the time this video was shot it was already late. After having played an hour's worth of tunes and literally five seconds before this video begins, both Calvin and Clinton expressed that they were “Done” for the evening. But then Calvin had an idea... “Rhea, put your shoes on, come and dance!” Calvin shares the backstory of this tune: "Maurice Billette is a fiddler from Quebec. Not a famous fiddler but someone who just loves to play. I watch him play and I feel the happy feeling that I presume he has playing. I met him in Pembroke Ontario where he competes each year. I've been judging that contest since 1993." C.V. About Rhea: "My dad was a stepdancer so I come by it quite honestly - I'm a chip off the ole block - as they say. I always loved to dance and having four big brothers, I got in lots of practice. In my pre-teen years, I joined a French Canadian school of dance in my hometown of St. Paul, AB and started some formal training. In my early 20's, I moved to Montreal PQ to join Canada's National Folk Ensemble «Les Sortilèges», a professional dance company specializing in French Canadian stepdancing we call «la gigue». It is here that I learned lots and perfected the art of stepdancing. Since meeting Calvin in 1994, I count my blessings everyday to live with, not only a great guy, but one of Canada's best dance fiddlers and where I get to work, travel and perform with. We make a pretty good team! Since 1995, I continue to pass on my love of «la gigue» by teaching at the same school of dance that gave me my humble beginnings in 1975." R.L. How Calvin and Rhea met: "I met Rhea's parents long before I met her. They would come to the dances I was playing at. They had a square dance group called 'Les Tourbillons'. There was 5 couples that all traveled together. It was pretty special to see these seniors so in love with the music and dancing all night. Rhea was living in Montreal during that time dancing with a professional dance group called 'Les Sortilèges'. I think she heard lots about 'Calvin' and his music because when I did meet her, she said she felt like she knew me because her parents talked of me a lot. I'm sure glad they introduced me to their daughter." C.V. www.calvinvollrath.com
